Trigger Point Therapy
What is a Trigger Point?
A trigger point is an area of the muscle that is constantly in spasm. It is very tight and tender to the touch, and it may be deep and excruciating. In severe cases, trigger points create radiating pain that extends outward from the point of origin. This could lead to arm pain, shoulder pain, numbness and migraine headaches.
What is Trigger Point Therapy?
Trigger Point Therapy focuses specifically on muscle spasms and involves injecting a solution of saline and a local anasthetic directly into the trigger point. When the nerve impulse is disrupted, muscle spasm is relieved and pain subsides. Over time, as the muscle rebuilds itself, the trigger point is replaced by healthy muscle tissue. The end result is improved range of motion and mobility.th
What health conditions is Trigger Point Therapy used for?
Trigger Point Therapy is used for acute or chronic muscle spasms that may lead to symptoms such as:
- Tension and Migraine Headaches,
- Neck Pain,
- Back Pain,
- Shoulder Pain,
- Tingling and Numbness.
How many treatments will I need until I feel better?
Although there are some individuals who respond rapidly (one to two sessions), most people require a series of six sessions, one week apart, to totally relieve the pain and prevent relapse. In severe situations with multiple affecting muscles, up to 12 sessions may be necessary.
